1999
Trametal spa, part of the Malacalza Group, purchased the assets (land, buildings and equipment) from administrative receivers.
2001
The new company, Spartan UK Ltd commenced rolling steel plate at the revitalised site in Gateshead, starting a process of continual growth and expansion to the present.
2005
Production hit a new high and exports reached 50% of the total sales for the first time.
2006
New HCT Batch furnace No 1 installed.
2007
A major upgrade and investment in the mill with the installation of 2 x 2.5MW Converteam induction motors. These state of the art motors and control systems enabled improved productivity, output, quality and reliability for the mill.
2008
In recognition of the company’s success Spartan won The Journal “Fastest 50 large company” award for 2007.
Spartan UK along with Trametal spa was purchased by Metinvest Holdings LLC from the Malacalza Group.

2011
Spartan UK Ltd produced 1,000,000t of plate since the launch 10 years earlier and celebrated 10 years of success and profitable growth.
